The book

Square Appointments for tattoo artists

A no-show on a fifteen-minute cut stings. A no-show on a four-hour session is a lost day. Tattoo runs on deposits, and Square Appointments treats them that way.

Deposits at booking

Prepayment or card on file the moment the session goes on the calendar. The deposit applies straight to the final bill at checkout.

No-shows cost them, not you

Cancellation windows with real fees: no-show and late-cancel charges sized to protect a multi-hour block. On Square's Plus plan.

A book per artist

Every artist gets their own login and calendar. The front counter sees all of them on one screen.

Booking from the bio

A free booking site, booking straight from Instagram, and a QR code for the counter. Clients book themselves at 2am; you wake up to a full day.

Reminders that go out on their own

Text and email reminders before every session. Square Assistant answers the "can I move to Thursday?" texts for you.

Waitlist fills the cancelled block

When a session drops, the next client on the list gets the slot. On Square's Plus plan.

The client file

Notes, reference images, and the signed consent form attached to the client's profile, with every past session and payment underneath.

Big pieces, billed cleanly

Estimates and invoices for multi-session custom work: deposit first, balance as sessions land. Afterpay at checkout for the client who wants the full sleeve now.

Gift cards, tips, and the counter

Physical and e-gift cards for flash days and holidays. Tips built into checkout. Aftercare and merch rung up in the same sale.

Why through us

Same Square. A person on the account.

We’re an authorized Square reseller based in Nashville, and we set Square up in person. Same price as square.com or better, never more, plus free equipment for new clients and the owner’s phone number on the account.

The pitch is not the software. Square Appointments is Square Appointments wherever you sign up. The difference is who builds your artists’ calendars and deposit policy with you, who trains the shop, and who you call when a reader dies on a Saturday.

  • Same price or better, never more. Square's published rates are your worst case.
  • Set up in person by the owner. Deposit policy, artist calendars, hardware, training. In your shop, on your schedule.
  • An advocate on your account. We're the agent of record with Square. When something needs attention, you call us.

I've been self-employed for twenty-five years, and I've watched a lot of good shops run their book on a DM thread and a notebook. It works until the one Saturday it doesn't.

I'll set Square up in your studio, build the deposit policy with you, and train whoever's at the counter. After that, my number is the one on your account.

Questions

Tattoo shop questions, answered straight.

Does Square work for tattoo shops?
Yes. Tattoo and piercing studios run Square every day. Appointments, deposits, checkout, invoices, and gift cards all live on one account: Square Appointments for the book, a Square Terminal or Stand at the counter. We configure both in your studio, in person.
Can I take deposits through Square Appointments?
Yes, and that is the core of it for tattoo. Take a partial deposit or full prepayment the moment the session is booked, keep a card on file, and set a cancellation window. Paid plans can charge automatic no-show and late-cancellation fees. The deposit applies to the final bill at checkout. Not sure what your policy should say? Start with our tattoo deposit policy playbook.
What does Square cost for a tattoo shop?
Square’s published pricing starts at $0/month with 2.6% + 15¢ per in-person transaction (3.3% + 30¢ online), and paid plans add features like automatic no-show fees. Through Process King, published pricing is the most you’d ever pay. Every client gets custom pricing, and the more you process, the better your rate.
Do I need the Plus plan?
Not to start. The free plan takes deposits and keeps a card on file. Plus adds automatic no-show and late-cancel fees and the waitlist. Shops that live on multi-hour sessions usually end up wanting both. We’ll tell you honestly whether you need them on day one.
Can each artist run their own book?
Yes. Each artist gets their own login and calendar, and the front counter sees all of them. If your artists rent booths and need their own money, that is a different setup. Tell us how the shop is structured and we’ll match it.
